Super Bowl 55 Preview

With Super Bowl 55 just a couple of days away, many see that the Kansas City Chiefs will win their third Super Bowl and second straight, however, Patrick Mahomes is up against the only quarterback to ever beat him in the postseason, Tom Brady and his new team, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

The Kansas City Chiefs are -3 point favorites against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Super Bowl Sunday however, Sharon High School sophomore Adam Lessard says they won’t cover. “I think that it will be a very close game anyway no matter who wins because of the explosive offenses. I also have the Bucs winning because I think their defense can do better than last time shutting down Tyreek Hill who had a ridiculous first quarter last matchup against the Bucs,” said Lessard.

“They only lost by three points last time, and if they just slow down Tyreek and match their scoring I think the Bucs defense can come up clutch late,” added Lessard.

Junior Khasayar Zafar says that the end score will be majorly determined by the elite receiving departments of the two teams. “It’ll most likely be a high scoring game considering both offenses are loaded in the receiving department,” Zafar said.

Lessard says the game is bound to be high scoring. “These are two of the best offenses in the league, so I don’t see any way that an offense of Kelce, Hill, and Mahomes or an offense of Evans, Godwin, and Brady can be shut down at all,” Lessard added.

Sharon High School junior Shane Sekuler says that both teams have their strengths on the offensive side but all the position groups have had great coaching. “The Chiefs have the far, more dangerous weapons with a receiving core that consists of [Tyreek] Hill, [Travis] Kelce, and [Mecole] Hardman. But the Bucs have more dangerous running backs and their offensive line does a better job blocking for Brady and the backs,” said Sekuler.

With both offensive units being two of the best in the NFL, Sekuler says the Bucs defense will control the game. “Buccaneers have the more dangerous defense, Devin White is a force to be reckoned with. Same with Lavonte David. And the Bucs defensive line is quite potent as well with [Ndamukong ] Suh, [Shaquil] Barrett, and JPP [Jason Pierre-Paul],” Sekuler said.

Lessard says that both defenses are unreliable but the Bucs defense is better. “With Pierre-Paul rushing the middle, that gives less time for Mahomes to throw and more time for him to make irrational decisions. You have a strong linebacker in Devin White and when u pair him alongside Lavonte David, they make a good pair. This defense is capable of clutch stops in the long run,” Lessard added.

This Super Bowl means more than just the Lombardi trophy. It could very well be the last time Brady and Mahomes will meet up in an NFL game in uniform and can cement Mahomes to only ever to become the second to ever play if he loses to Brady says Lessard.

“I think it will be very tough for [Mahomes to catch up to Brady if they lose], and Mahomes would have to break records and match his super bowl appearance record as well. I don’t think Mahomes will catch up, but no matter the outcome of the super bowl, Mahomes still has a chance as he is young and has a lot of time left,” said Lessard.
