Jayson Tatum has been on a tear this season averaging 31.6 points, 7.8 rebounds, 1.1 blocks, and winning Player Of The Month for the Eastern Conference in November, making a case for himself as an MVP (most valuable player) candidate.
With Tatum’s leadership, the Celtics have been off to a hot start at 19 wins and 5 losses. Coming off of a historic NBA finals run last season, many had high expectations for the Celtics, but nobody expected the Celtics and Tatum to be at the top of the league in wins and game stats.
The Celtics’ season so far has shown how greatly Tatum and the guys have elevated their skills. “Jayson Tatum’s put the league on notice these first few months, and the team around him has had a big role in that. Last year the Celtics were title contenders and this year they’ve developed even more. I think him with Jaylen Brown and Marcus Smart makes an unstoppable trio,” said senior Tony Yang.
Some say that Tatum’s unselfish ball movement and chemistry with the rest of the team on the court is essential to the Celtics success. Senior Tyler Goodman says, “I think Jayson Tatum is very good when he moves the ball with the entire Celtics roster. When he does this it makes him and the Celtics better”.
There is no doubt that if Tatum keeps up his superstar caliber stats, that he can win league MVP. “I think he’s gonna have to keep these numbers up and beat out Luka if he wants MVP, but I don’t think KD (Kevin Durant) and Giannis will be an issue,” said senior Jonny Tyler.
“Jayson Tatum has MVP one-hundred percent, he’s a level above all these guys like Luka Doncic and Kevin Durant,” Goodman added.
If the Celtics continue on the path they are on right now, they will end their season with about 66 wins, which would most likely put them at the top of the Eastern Conference in the playoffs. “The odds of the Celtics making the finals are very high if they keep playing the way they are. I don’t see how they don’t win it this year,” said Goodman.
Tyler added, “The Celtics aren’t going to just make the finals, they’re going to win the finals baby let’s go!”
