As the 2023 NFL Draft approaches us rapidly, it’s worth reviewing the prospects of the class.
There are lots of amazing prospects coming out of the 2023 NFL Draft Class such as Alabama’s promising QB in Bryce Young and star running back Bijan Robinson from Texas. As draft day, April 27th, is coming, speculation around the players in this class is growing.
Bryce Young is a promising prospect as many people have him in their top 3 draft pick locks. “My top five are Bryce Young, C.J. Stroud, Will Anderson, Christian Gonzalez, and Jalen Carter,” Alex Barth, a sports writer for 98.5 The Hub said.
Although the other quarterback mentioned in Barth’s top 5, Ohio State’s star quarterback CJ Stroud, is seen by some outlets as the most NFL ready quarterback. “C.J. Stroud is almost flawless as a quarterback prospect,” Dean Jones, a writer for the Carolina Panthers said.
The talent of this draft class goes beyond just quarterbacks. Barth says, “This cornerback class is historically deep. As many as seven cornerbacks could end up going in the first round”.
Many mock drafts and analysts have Christian Gonzalez as the top corner in this class, consistently being a top 10-6 pick. “Gonzalez oozes athletic potential and offers a high football IQ,” Jeff Risdon of USA Today says.
Tight end is also a very deep position in this class with top end guys like Michael Mayer from Notre Dame and Dalton Kincaid from Utah to day 2 picks like Luke Schoonmaker out of Michigan. “Tight ends are the strongest position group in this draft, at least relative to averages,” Justin Mosqueda of SBnation says.
Players like Darnell Washington improved their draft stock because of impressive combine performances. “The 2023 NFL Draft is full of great athletes at tight end, but Georgia’s Darnell Washington may be the best among them,” Jacob Camenker from Sporting-News says.
Anthony Richardson (AR15) had a combine for the ages. Previously ranked below other players such as Will Levis, Will Anderson, and Jalen Carter, now numerous mock drafts and articles have AR15 out of florida going in the top 5. “Richardson has massive talent and a build that dropped jaws at the combine,” Ryan Mink, a writer for the Baltimore Ravens says.
On the other hand, coming into the draft Jalen Carter, a defensive tackle standout from Georgia, was a top 3 pick as of January of 2023, but since then he has gotten into legal trouble. “Jalen Carter has character issues that could hurt him in the draft,” analyst Tod McShay of Sportscenter said.
Baylor’s very own defensive lineman, Siaki Ika, has dropped stock. “His general lack of athleticism should have teams concerned.” Bleacher Report writer Alex Kay had said.
The 2023 NFL draft class is loaded with talent, from three exceptional quarterback prospects to potential generational defensive players to immediate impact game-breakers on offense.
