Sharon High School is excited to welcome Ms. Amy Belhumeur as the ninth-grade World History I teacher and History Coordinator between the middle and high schools.
Previously a veteran of Oxford Middle School, Ms. Belhumeur brings to Sharon twenty-two years of experience first as a history teacher and then in administration as an assistant principal and principal.
Belhumeur was always a fan of history growing up as a student and later a teacher. “It’s always been history. It’s very interesting to me,” said Belhumeur.
“It’s important to know what happened in the past so we can figure out how we got here and we can learn from history in order to make changes or adjustments today and not repeat past mistakes,” added Belhumeur. Specifically, Ms. Belhumuer’s favorite period to study was the medieval era. “It’s fascinating, the way that they lived and dictated their life,” she explained.
Although Ms. Belhumeur has only been at Sharon High School for a couple of weeks, there are two things that stand out clearly to her in Sharon. “We have wonderful staff and students…and there is a real community here,” she said.
Ms. Belhumeur has two main goals for her first year at Sharon: creating a fun and interactive learning environment for students and coordinating the history programs between the middle and high schools. “My goal for the school year is to make it as engaging as possible for [my] class and also to be successful as the history coordinator working with both the middle and high school students,” she said.
For SHS students, Ms. Belhumeur has one bit of advice and inspiration to share in her favorite quote from Confucius: “Our greatest glory is not in never falling, but in rising every time we fall,” she quoted.
