As the 2023-2024 school year kicks off, a wave of new teachers have taken part in the Sharon High School community. In particular, Julia Feid, a new wellness teacher, has joined the faculty.
This school year marks Feid’s first year of teaching. She hails from North Attleboro, MA and graduated from The University of Maine before coming to Sharon High School.
Regarding what Feid hopes to achieve by teaching wellness, she explains she wants to teach students how to make well-educated health decisions. “I want to be able to give students the information they need to be responsible and healthy individuals, and for students to be able to learn different fitness-based activities that they can participate in outside of school to stay active,” said Feid.
Upon reflection of Feid’s own high school experiences, Feid says that she wishes she had taken advantage of more extracurricular opportunities.“If I was back in high school, I would tell myself to join as many activities as possible. Whether that be clubs, sports, theater, music, or art,” said Feid. Likewise, she specifies that joining basketball was one of her most valuable high school experiences. “I’ve made friends for life through basketball that I’m still so close to today,” explained Feid.
As a new addition to the SHS community, Feid hopes to make PE an enjoyable class for students to look forward to and learn new activities they’re passionate about. Feid says, “I want my students to be excited to come to PE ❲Physical Education❳ and be able to find activities that they enjoy doing during class time and outside of class time. I hope that my students learn how to work together in different activities and expand on their collaboration skills,” said Feid.
Outside of the classroom, Feid’s ideal way to spend a weekend is to enjoy time, staying active, and catching up with friends and family. “My ideal weekend during the school year is going to the gym, going out to lunch or dinner with family or friends while watching a game or sporting event that is on. On Sundays I enjoy going to Patriots’ games,” Feid said.
When asked about words she lives by, Feid highlights punctuality and hard work. “Early is on time and on time is late,” said Feid, adding, “Be 1% better than you were the day before.”
