Calling all athletes! We have a new, enthusiastic athletic director at Sharon High School. Mr. Mike McCaffery arrived this academic year with many ideas that will enhance our athletic programs.
“Ultimately, I’d like to find a way to provide daily staff coverage in the weight room for students to enjoy the facility after school and take into consideration of the addition of new sports opportunities such as girls’ flag football and boys’ volleyball,” he said.
As for any other potential improvements, McCaffrey added, “The changes I would like to add to SHS are still forming, as I have subscribed to baseball Hall of Famer Yogi Berra’s philosophy of ‘observing a lot by watching’ this year.”
McCaffrey has over a decade of experience in the athletics field. He has worked for 13 years with Groton Dunstable, Windham, and Lincoln Sudbury. “The role was similar at each stop and has enabled me to learn and develop a broad understanding of administering athletics at the secondary school level. The challenges of finding game officials, qualified coaches, and transportation are ever-present no matter the school district,” McCaffrey said.
McCaffrey had a passion for athletics for most of his life. “This passion has led to a lifetime involvement in participating, coaching, and administrating sports at the high school, collegiate, and international levels,” he explained.
McCaffrey’s athletic experience stretches in many fields, building a strong, responsible foundation.
Throughout his high school career, McCaffrey shone in soccer, hockey, and lacrosse. “I played all three seasons throughout my time at Billerica Memorial High School for coaches who demanded dedication, commitment, and sportsmanship on and off the field. The life lessons, grit, and determination instilled at BMHS continue to impact my life,” he said.
Sharon Eagles should strive to be dedicated and committed as well. McCaffrey said he joined the SHS community to work at a top public school. “The new school and opportunity to work as part of Principal Keenan’s leadership team was important to me, too,” he said.
Whatever changes may come, Mr. McCaffrey has the experience to lead us through.
