Since the last beat, the Sharon Eagles Baseball team has played 12 games, and in those games they have had a combined record of 4-8. The Eagles have started to find a groove towards the end of the season with many big wins and most of the contests coming down to the final innings.
The Eagles got their second win of the season against the Stoughton Black Knights in a game that they won 5-4 behind a good pitching performance from Cole Arundale and timely hitting by the whole lineup.
The Eagles’ next contest drew the Canton Bulldogs on the road, and through 4 innings they were down 1-0. Freshman Mason Silverman pitched strong for the Eagles in this one, keeping the team in the game. In the 5th, the tides would shift, however, as Senior Liam Conway knocked in to put the Eagles up two. This allowed Senior Luke Meixel to come in and close the door to seal the Eagles’ back-to-back wins. The Eagles traveled to Winthrop the next day, staying in the game, deadlocked at 3-3, but they could not pull out their third straight, 7-5.
The next week the Eagles would have North Attleboro, Canton, and Foxboro on the lineup. This was a roller coaster week, to say the least, as the Eagles started the week losing to North 7-2. On Wednesday, Canton came to town looking for revenge and threw their ace versus the Eagles. He would last just three innings as the bats were hot for Sharon to start. Arundale got the start in this one and pitched well enough to keep the Eagles in front. Canton pulled close toward the end, however, with some timely hitting from the Eagles to propel them to an 8-5 win. To close off the week, the Eagles would travel to Foxboro but did not play well, as they dropped a tough game 13-2.
The next contest for Sharon, they would take a long bus ride to Wayland in a non-league battle. The team came out hot as they would put up two runs in the first. Wayland responded, however, with four of their own in the inning. After that, the game was deadlocked until the top of the 7th as the Eagles came from behind with some timely hitting and base running to regain the lead. Meixel came into the game in the 2nd inning and was locked down, allowing no runs and striking out 7 batters. Meixel also had three hits at the plate as he was a catalyst in the Sharon win.
With three games left, the Eagles are on the outside looking in when it comes to the playoffs. They will have an outside chance to make it into the 32-team field if they can come up with a few key wins to finish the season. The Eagles have Mansfield away, Rival OA at Boston College, and Stoughton at home for Senior Day.
