Although you have probably seen posters around school for the Care 4 Kids Food and Clothing Drive, you may not know what the event entails. The club, which is connected to the global organization C4K, will be holding the drive from early December through the beginning of January.
The drive is primarily for gently used children’s clothing for the Salvation Army, but if you can’t find any youth-sized clothing, all sizes are welcome. The club is also collecting non-perishables for the Canton Helpline, a local organization that assists those in need. Boxes for donations will be located at the front of the school near the office.
This drive will not be the first C4K charity event of the year. The club is a great source of volunteer opportunities and a place for anyone who wants to serve their community. Members raise funds and awareness for victims of domestic violence through drives, bake sales, and concerts for the SHS community.
According to club co-president Antara Padwal, “knowing that our club, pantry, and clothing drive make even a small-scale impact for just a few people is really important for us and our members.” The club meets on Mondays in room 1508 from 2:45-3:30 P.M.
According to the National Center for Children in Poverty, more than 80% of homeless mothers and women have previously experienced domestic violence, making this drive more important than ever. Additionally, the holidays leave many families with an abundance of food. Donating leftover sealed cans and boxes clears out pantries and benefits those who could use extra help this winter.
If you have any questions or are interested in the C4K club, you can email the club’s co-presidents, Antara Padwal and Mihika Singh, at [email protected] or [email protected].
If you or someone you know is experiencing domestic violence, please don’t hesitate to call the National Domestic Violence Hotline at 800-799-7233 and tell a trusted adult. You are not alone.
