The Hockomock League Championship has long hosted some of the state’s best athletes.
On Thursday, Feb 6, 2025, all the way at The TRACK at New Balance, in Boston, the Sharon High School boys and girls’ teams delivered a fantastic performance on the track (and the field). While they didn’t win the championship, Sharon High had several standout performances, solidifying its place among the league’s best.
The Sharon boys’ team finished fifth overall, while the girls’ team secured a seventh-place finish, an improvement from the past few years. The team won five gold medals throughout the meet.
Preparations for the Hockomock League Championship were no small task, with Sharon’s athletes enduring demanding workouts in the frigid cold. Coaches Alan Boyer and Sarah Meeks assisted head coach Benjamin Stoller with the sprinters and jumpers, while Stoller directed his talents coaching track towards the mid-distance and distance groups. The team focused on physical conditioning and mental strength, since races are often decided by a fraction of a second.
Senior Josy Brown-Wright said, “We put in a lot of work… Each one of us focused on a single flaw that we had, and we overcame it by just working on it together and picking each other up.”
This championship was more than just a meet—for Sharon, it was an opportunity for records to be broken and personal bests to be shattered.
On the girls’ side, Nina Kyei-Aboagye, now the fastest sprinter in the state, put on a grand performance in the 55-meter dash finals and the 300-meter. She asserted herself at the top in each event, clocking in at 7.03 and 40.20 seconds, respectively. Additionally, Linda Jenner and Imani Vaughn both had impressive races in the 55-meter dash in the preliminaries and finals, finishing sixth, with a best time of 7.52, and eighth, with a best time of 7.79. Their success carried over to the 4×200 relay, where their squad with Callie Weader and Nina Kyei-Aboagye took home gold with a time of 1:47.80. In the long jump, Linda Jenner landed in fourth place with a jump of 15 feet and 10 inches.
On the boys’ side, Rain Zheng fought through the 55-meter hurdles finals to claim sixth place with a time of 8.53 seconds. Soon after, in the 55-meter sprint, Tommy Farkas achieved a time of 6.76 to secure fifth place in the preliminaries. Josy Brown-Wright sped past the competition in the 300-meter, clinching first place with a time of 35.28. In the long-distance events, Alexander Blumen secured third place in the two-mile with a time of 10:03.87, while Alex Pinnix finished in sixth place with a time of 10:27.97. The boys’ 4×200 relay team finished in fifth place with a time of 1:33.59, while the 4×400 team finished in fifth as well with a time of 3:46.34. Meanwhile, in the field events, Tobiah Stessman had a strong performance: in the high jump, he cleared 5’6” to take seventh place, and in the long jump, he reached 20’11.25” inches to attain first place.
While Sharon received many individual accolades, this meet had a bigger underlying purpose: representing Sharon’s pride. The cheers from teammates and toe-curling finishes created an unforgettable experience for all.
For the seniors, this championship marked the end of an era. Brown-Wright explained that his years of hard work, training, and competing with the team have built strong bonds that won’t be forgotten. “Overall, it was a very good experience, and I’m truly going to miss it,” he said.
