Calling all residents! The upcoming “Many Families, Many Stories” exhibition celebrating Sharon’s diversity is open for submissions!
From now to March 31st, the Sharon Historical Society is asking Sharon residents to submit different artifacts and photographs that are a special part of their lives. The submission, which should include a short paragraph providing background on their item, will be put on public display at the event, which will run through most of May.
Claire Forman, one of the directors, said that this museum-style event is intended to celebrate Sharon’s culture.
The exhibit “provides residents of Sharon, current and past, the opportunity to reflect on the traditions and values that have been passed from one generation to the next,” Forman said. “Sharon is a diverse town. The exhibit is designed to celebrate that diversity and record the present for the future.”
If you want to showcase anything special to your heart, don’t forget to send it in by the end of the month. Your special object doesn’t have to be anything fancy — sometimes, it’s the simplest things that really represent a person’s way of life. For example, food often brings people together and shows the inner workings of peoples’ families, and the Sharon Historical Society encourages the public to send in pictures of foods or recipes.
“Items on exhibit will clearly demonstrate that we are in many ways different but in many ways the same,” Forman said. “It is an opportunity to reflect on the commonality of us all and promote understanding and acceptance which is so vital throughout history but even more so in these present times.”
If you want to learn more about your community and honor Sharon’s heritage, then the “Many Families, Many Stories” event is perfect for you! The displays open on Saturday May 3rd, and the Sharon Historical Society will have a reception on Sunday May 4 from 3 to 5 PM. Of course, families are welcome to stay for story sharing and delicious food! The exhibit will remain open until May 25th. Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays will have fully open viewing, while the other days of the week will remain exclusive for special appointments.
