The apocalypse has been delayed! Stalwart Productions was set to film scenes for a project rumored to be a The Walking Dead spinoff show TWD: Dead City right here in Sharon, however these plans have been pushed back.
On October 9th, the Sharon website announced a closure at Lake Massapoag on October 13th for a filming shoot of an unspecified program. They included that the lake was to be closed to allow Stalwart Productions, the company behind Dead City to film on the beach. The company also planned to use the inside of Sharon High School, as well as the parking lots for the middle and high school to leave their equipment and vehicles. On October tenth, the town of Sharon updated its website to announce that in lue of a potentially big storm coming to Massachusetts, the production has been postponed.
While the specific program has not been confirmed, Stalwart Productions’ most acclaimed tv show is The Walking Dead: Dead City, so Sharonites assume this is what’s being filmed. Additionally, seasons 2 and 3 of Dead City have been primarily filmed in Massachusetts. Towns such as Worcester, Taunton, and Brockton have been featured on the show, with their most recent shoot having taken place on October tenth in Brockton. Many believe that Sharon could be the next on their list.
The first Walking Dead show came out in 2010, remained on air for 12 years due to its widespread popularity, and wrapped up its final season in 2022. Today, many spinoffs keep the fandom alive such as The Talking Dead, The Walking Dead: Daryl Dxon, and finally the star of the show: The Walking Dead: Dead City.
Dead City takes place around 6 years after the finale of the original show and features returning characters from The Walking Dead such as Maggie Greene, and Negan Smith. Dead City follows Maggie and Negan as they venture into Manhattan to save Maggie’s son who has been kidnapped. They face hordes of zombies and ruthless humans who rule the city along their journey.
Without revealing spoilers, season one ended on a major cliffhanger, leaving fans of the show anxiously anticipating the release of season two, which has been filming since April 2024 in Taunton MA. Unfortunately, plans to film in Sharon have been indefinitely postponed.
Whether or not it is The Walking Dead, keep an eye out for any future updates on facebook, the town of Sharon website, or here on The Talon. Just remember to remain respectful if they end up filming nearby, Stalwart productions prefers that people stay on the perimeters while filming.
That being said, get excited Walking Dead fans, big things are happening in Sharon!
