“Never give up” is a motto that many believe in, including Dr. Cho. The chemistry teacher has worked at Sharon High School for the past 26 years. Every week, he shares his special weekend plans with his classes, often including his favorite hobby of golf. Dr. Cho says that he initially discovered this new passion during his sophomore year of high school, when he would visit a golf course where his brother and friends worked. Over the years, he has enjoyed playing at a local course, which he calls his refuge. When asked if there was another sport that he would like to play, Dr. Cho shared that he was open to trying pickleball.
To manage his time between teaching and playing golf, Cho shares that he works rigorously throughout the week, spending his time grading and teaching chemistry. Then, over the weekend, he dedicates all of his time to playing golf. Dr. Cho advises students to work hard during the week, putting all their effort and attention into completing their work, and then spend weekends playing sports and socializing, incorporating balance into their routine.
Dr. Cho’s passion for golf is something he enjoys sharing with his students. He encourages Sharon High School’s golf team to “Never Give Up” in any of their matches, and his golf motto is “Never Surrender.” The chemistry teacher believes that being a successful golfer means always staying present and practicing; in the near future, he aims to sharpen his own putting and ball-striking skills. All athletes have a favorite player that they look up to, for Dr. Cho that’s golfer Rickie Fowler; the professional golfer’s enthusiasm and performance in every game, as well as his funky outfits in vibrant black and orange colors inspire the Sharon High School Chemistry teacher. Dr. Cho hopes to inspire the students around him to keep going and work hard everyday.
