The Sharon Varsity Girls Soccer team finished the 2019 season with 3 points led by coach Catherine Sullivan and captains Bella Berger and Marika Fillion.
Coach Sullivan came into her second season as head coach of the varsity team with the issue of replacing the 11 seniors who graduated from last year’s roster. Luckily the Eagles maintained a relatively experienced midfield with seniors Bella Berger, Nicole Teven, and Marika Fillion controlling the middle of the field.
Bella Berger was named as a Hockomok all-star for the 2019 season as she played a major role this year in being the playmaker that Sharon could rely on every game. Nicole Teven added a lot as well as she won the golden boot award this year, scoring the most goals for Sharon. Marika Fillion proved to be a versatile player for Sharon this season as her work rate helped the team out in defense and in the midfield.
Junior Amelia Scappaticci provided another midfield option as she partnered with freshman Olivia Soby who helped provide more attacking options as she could play in the middle, wide, or as a forward.
Up top, junior Emily Griffin helped the team in scoring goals while freshman Wendy Wooden had an outbreak season in her first season with varsity as her blistering pace helped her score loads of goals this season.
Defensively, junior Molly McAlevey helped anchor the team as she made a lot of crucial stops to help Sharon as she proved to be one of the best defenders in the league alongside freshman Sally Brouhard who impressed game in and game out. Junior goalkeeper Cass Barbera played a similar role as she stepped up big time and time again, helping the team stay in a lot of games throughout the season.
Sharon got their first tie of the season after they drew 2-2 with Stoughton after scoring 2 goals in the first half.
They tied Milton on the 17th of October 1-1 in an out of league game and tied North Attleboro 0-0 the next day.
They got the chance to play at Gillette Stadium against Canton on October 22 where they lost 4-0. Despite losing, it was an incredible opportunity to play at the home of the 6-time Super Bowl champions.
