SHS Pride Day: June 10th

Today, June 10th is SHS Pride Day of Education! The SHS Gender and Sexuality Alliance invites you to celebrate our school’s LGBTQ+ pride and take part in honoring the queer community. SHS has a large LGBTQ+ community that is a core part of the school, and it wouldn’t be the same without them! We encourage you to educate yourselves on the community and what pride looks like today – join us for a workshop talking about the AIDS epidemic, the Stonewall riots, Imperialism and Gender Erasure, and the drag community including a guest speaker from the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence Boston chapter during eagle block today. https://sharonschools-net.zoom.us/j/81168499769?pwd=TFYvRUJXdStPbXcvL08rTk9ob3BkQT09

Unfortunately, black trans women are targeted for violence the most within the queer community and the intersection of their identity puts them at risk. Learn more about the women who have been killed this year and their stories here: https://www.hrc.org/resources/fatal-violence-against-the-transgender-and-gender-non-conforming-community-in-2021

Please consider donating to one of the following support groups if you have the resources!

The LGBT Asylum is a nonprofit organization that provides housing, food, and connection to legal, medical and mental resources for queer people seeking asylum from other, less supportive countries: http://www.lgbtasylum.org/donate.html

The Trevor Project is a nonprofit organization that provides crisis intervention and suicide prevention services to LGBTQ+ people under 25: https://give.thetrevorproject.org/

The Human Rights Campaign is a nonprofit organization that has been working for 40 years to make the world safer for LGBTQ+ people. Their work extends around the world pushing to change laws and support peoples rights.
