The Sharon High School Cross Country (XC) Teams competed against 11 other teams in the Hockomock League championship meet on Saturday October 29th. The meet was held at the Wrentham Development Center with runners running a 3.1 mile course on varied terrain.
The Boys Cross team finished in 2nd place as the Lady Eagles finished 4th.
Leading the Eagles boys team was sophomore Karthik Pisupati, who ran a 16:33 and placed 6th in the varsity race. “The team did great, a lot of PRs all around,” Karthik said.
Behind Pisupati was junior Nick Yacoub, running a 16:56 to take 9th place and Alex Blumen with a 16:57 placing 10th. “I just stuck with who I saw in front of me. Then going into the last mile I turned it up,” Yacoub said.
Freshman Daniel Labunski, is looking to play a big part of the team in the coming years. He ran a 17:15 placing him 14th in the race.
Junior Matthew Lally ran a 17:36 and rounded out the top five in 24th place. “The team did pretty well. We finished where we expected to finish. There were a lot of good PRs… We did what we needed to do,” said Lally.
The girls finished 4th place out of the 12 teams competing in Wrentham. Sharon’s top runner in the girls division was sophomore Sarah Lessard, running a 20:51 and giving her the 16th place. Two seniors Hannah Li at 21:59 and Sierra Robison running a 22:15 placed 34th and 36th respectively.
Talented breakout freshman. Sophie Liang placed just behind Hannah and Sierra at 38th. The top five runners were Amaya Zibrak running a 22:32 and placing just behind Liang at 39th. Maria Gallant placed 46th, breaking the tie between Sharon and King Phillip.
“The girls exceeded the projections and showed a lot of heart and grit. Coach Fugazot and I are so proud of both the boys’ and girls’ performances on Saturday,” said Coach Decknick.
