Small towns often get a bad rap, or at least a boring one, when compared to big cities. Sharon is no exception, but it has redeeming qualities that have remained consistent over the years—including Angel’s Cafe. While other restaurants have come and gone from the storefront across the street—The Square, Red Lentil, Pizzagando—Angel’s has held steady in the center of town for over 11 years.
As Sharon has historically been a predominantly Jewish town, Angel’s serves a fitting variety of Mediterranean cafe-style food. Fan favorites include their falafel, shakshuka, many types of paninis, and of course, specialty coffee drinks. They pride themselves in offering food that is not merely good-tasting, but good for you as well. On their official website, owner Ohan Angel states, “We are working around the clock to provide our customers the freshest and healthiest food. Using only organic vegetables, our fruits and vegetables arrive daily to provide satisfaction for our customers!”
Angel’s first opened back in 2014, and ever since, it has been one of the most popular places to hang out for all age groups. On half days and weekends, whether it’s rainy or sunny, you’ll always find a friendly face there.
And soon, Angel’s will be busier than ever: a second location is opening up in the heart of Patriot’s Place! If you’ve ever driven down Route 1 for an event at Gillette Stadium, you know how popular a destination Patriot’s is, drawing people from all over for different events. Angel’s has decided to set up a new location right next to Five Guys, perfect for those who need a coffee pick-me-up with their burgers.
Neither Angel’s nor Patriot’s Place has announced the exact date of opening yet, but we know that they plan to serve their classic Mediterranean food in their new location as well.
Without a change in menu, Angel’s may face challenges from competing restaurants in Foxborough. Angel’s flourishes here in Sharon because there aren’t any other cafes to compete with it. Patriot’s Place, on the other hand, may come with challenges; there are already many popular lunch spots and cafes, such as Dunkin, Starbucks, and Five Guys. Will diners appreciate the variety in flavours, or will they want to stick to the classic chain restaurants, like Olive Garden, that have dominated Gillette for years? Only time will tell.
This isn’t to say it’s impossible for Angel’s to do well in Patriot’s Place. They may very well flourish; The Muffin House Cafe, a coffee shop similar to Angel’s in size, also started off as one location in Massachusetts. They then started opening up new locations and currently have six up and running. Angel’s could be next.
Angel’s is more than just a cafe. It provides memories, history, culture, and community along with its food. So next time you’re in Patriots’s Place, stop by Five Guys and take a look to see if a familiar cafe is sitting next door. And if it is, consider supporting a local business in a not-so-local area!
