Student Question: How do I cope with the crushing pain of rejection from my dream college? It feels as if my skin is being slowly peeled from my bones and I cry every day 🙁
Abby’s Answer: Um. Wow. I’m sorry that happened, but I’m sure you still have a bright future ahead of you. Try doing more research on the other schools on your list, especially if you’ve already been accepted to some of them. (If you haven’t, you will.) Talking to current students and alumni or just browsing online will help you realize that there are plenty of schools out there with great career opportunities, social scenes, or whatever else you’re looking for. Dream on. 🙂
Q: Can u write a haiku about the highschool experience pls
A: Actually, I think Anonymous Senior #39 did that better than I ever could.
my skin is being
slowly peeled from my bones and
I cry every day
It’s not all bad, though!
Sometimes there are chocolate scones.
We will get through this.
Q: You’re a senior—are you ever worried about the future, in the sense that a chapter of your life is closing? How do you deal with it?
A: Hmm. This is turning into a pretty depressing advice column.
Honestly, I don’t feel like leaving high school marks the end of anything. I have no idea what’s going to happen in my future, but I’m excited to find out, and you should be too! Cheer up, everyone—it’s almost spring, and we have our whole lives ahead of us.
